How to split a PDF online for free
Step-by-step guide to splitting a PDF by ranges, every N pages, or one file per page - privately with no upload.
Splitting a PDF online does not have to mean uploading it to a stranger's cloud. When the tool runs in your browser, you pick a file, choose how pages should break apart, and download the result from the same tab - no account and no wait for a remote queue.
Steps
- Open a private PDF splitter and select a file (max 5 MB on Jigglify).
- Choose page ranges, every page, or every N pages.
- Run the split and download the PDF or ZIP result.
Range syntax usually looks like 1-3, 5, 8-10. Spaces are optional; commas separate ranges and single pages. Multiple outputs are often packaged as a ZIP so you get one download instead of a flood of individual saves.
Choosing the right mode
Start with ranges when you already know the page numbers - cover letter, pages 4-7 of exhibits, then the signature sheet. Use every-page mode when each sheet needs its own file name or when you will attach different pages to different people. Use every-N when you have a long scan and want, for example, five-page chunks for review batches.
Before you start
- Unlock encrypted PDFs first - password-protected files cannot be split until opened
- Confirm the file is under 5 MB, or compress or trim it elsewhere if needed
- Skim page previews so blank sheets do not sneak into the wrong range
Tips that save time
If you need both a short extract and the full document later, keep a copy of the original and only share the split outputs. Name downloads right away - contract-signature-pages.pdf beats split-output-3.pdf when you revisit the folder next week. If a merge created the big packet you are now carving up, verify order before you range-select; wrong order means wrong extracts.
Prefer a client-side splitter when the PDF contains personal or business-sensitive content. Processing stays on your device, which is the practical difference between "online" convenience and actually handing the file to a remote service.
After you download
Open the new PDF or ZIP and confirm page counts match what you expected. Rename outputs while the context is fresh. If a range missed a page, adjust the syntax and run again from the original - do not try to patch a wrong extract by merging random leftovers. When emailing, attach only the split files the recipient needs; keep the full source offline unless they asked for everything.
